LION stands for Local Investing Opportunities Network. LION creates opportunities for local businesses, nonprofits, and citizens to network.
Our mission is to build prosperous local businesses, keep investing money in our community, and help build a more resilient and sustainable economy in East Jefferson County.
LION is not a loan or investment fund, and it does not make collective investment decisions. Our membership consists of local citizens who support local businesses and invest their money locally, putting their investing money to work within our community. Keeping funds local facilitates greater economic self-sufficiency, job growth, economic development, and a dollar-multiplier effect whereby a dollar kept within the community can be spent many times over for a far greater benefit than a dollar invested away from our community.

Local investing is more than providing financing and receiving payments – although these are key enablers. Local Investing is about building businesses, building relationships, and building community. That is the message of the LION 2021 video, as told through the story of reopening Aldrich’s – the oldest continuously operated grocery store in WA. LION founder Michelle Sandoval, Aldrich’s owners Yos and Christa Ligtenberg, and Aldrich’s investors Fran and Dan Post share their perspectives on Building Community Together.

Data in the profile is based on a voluntary survey conducted of LION members. As not all LION members responded to the survey, the data shown represent “at least” amounts of LION member investments. The profile contains data in aggregate (no specific business, member, or otherwise confidential information is included), and describe the magnitude, scope, and characteristics of local investing by LION members.
Data is based on responses from LION members who responded to voluntary surveys conducted in 2012, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2023.
